Our Story

Back in 1993, at March Air Reserve Base, CA, I opened up March Aviation Gallery, a custom picture framing and awards and recognition business. Since then, I’ve moved my business just off base, but my focus was and always is to support military members, first. One of the more important gifts I always enjoy creating for my customers is the military shadow box which many military members desire upon separating or retiring. However, due to the typical high cost, many people cannot afford such a gift.

At the time, my husband, an Air Force squadron commander, was searching for something to give his troops that wouldn’t break the bank but still provide a summary of a member’s military service. The search ended with my creation of the shadow box “on a plaque”, what I call a Military Retirement Plaque. Using our laser engraver, I am able to create, on a twelve by fifteen-inch piece of wood, a unique gift that completely encompasses a person’s entire military career. For many military units, friends, and family members, these one-of-a-kind, personalized heirlooms have turned out to be the perfect retirement gift.

In our gallery you will see several plaques to show you different ideas on how your plaque can be designed. Please do not feel limited to the examples shown. Because this can be a very personalized gift, we highly encourage involving the receiver in the design process. Also, please provide us with as much lead time as possible, to allow the collection of information and items needed to complete your order.
